SCOTT KELLEHER, WALK FOR FREEDOM (PEOPLE 2024)
Last year Neil Para walked 1000 kilometres in his fight for freedom. On his way from Ballarat to Sydney I caught up with Neil and walked a bit and got to know him. Living in refugee limbo, Neil and his family had been restricted access to work, Medicare and university education due to the lack of permanent visas. He made a marathon trek to petition Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for fairness for refugees and to bring the issue of 10000 refugees to the attention of the general public. It was a successful journey for Neil in way of being granted residency but there are so many more still in his previous situation. We exchanged numbers and agreed to meet later in October for the Ballarat International Foto Biennale. This is one of my captures of him.
