Sue Dowling, Unmoved. (PEOPLE 2025)
In this image, I explore the contrast between stillness and motion, presence and transience. A single figure stands illuminated, caught in a moment of quiet observation, while the city surges past in a blur of motion. The interplay of light and shadow isolates him, emphasizing the disconnect between the individual and the relentless pace of urban life. Through intentional contrast and long exposure, I wanted to capture the sensation of being both within the crowd and apart from it—a fleeting pause in the rush of existence. The surrounding darkness heightens the sense of solitude, inviting the viewer to consider the unseen moments of stillness that exist within the everyday chaos. This work is a meditation on time, anonymity, and the quiet defiance of standing still in a world that never stops moving.
