I travel across the Sydney Harbour Bridge four days a week on my work commute. ‘The Coathanger’, as it’s affectionately known, has stood since the early 1930s and looks like it could stand for another 100 years. That’s quite apparent when you look beneath this icon and marvel at the engineering that has gone into it. More than 52,000 tonnes of steel, six million hand-driven rivets and 272,000 litres of paint for its initial three coats.
