Deborah Walker, Too close for comfort (PLACES 2024)

Just like any other visitor to Tasmania we had a list of places to see and things to do while we were there. One of these places was Bicheno, situated on the east coast of Tassie. A pretty, charming seaside town that friends had told us not to miss seeing, plenty of great photo opportunities they had said. We wanted to see the Blowhole in particular hoping that it would do something while we were there. It is a very popular tourist attraction with lots of people armed with their mobile phones and cameras just waiting to get that perfect shot of the blowhole in action. One keen person, maybe not aware of the real danger of being swept off the rocks was a bit too close for comfort. Like everyone else I was at the ready when suddenly the blowhole erupted and showered that person and their camera with one of its magnificent geyser like eruptions! Luckily they were still there afterwards.
