Amy Marshall, The Theory of Omission (PEOPLE 2021)

In this portrait a young boy looks straight at the viewer with courage and strength. HIs nose is above the water; he can breathe, he can hear, he can see, he is supported and safe. But what we see is only a small part of his story. My Photography often depicts the resilience and strength of children. This portrait is my favourite from the 'photoshoot that changed me', Arriving at the shoot I expected it to be like many other family sessions I have taken. But due to the families circumstances, I left with a profound appreciation of my duty as a photographer. In this portrait a young boy looks at the viewer with courage and strength. but like an Iceberg, this portrait only reveals part of his story.
