A Male Baudin's Black Cockatoo works methodically through the branches of a mature peppermint tree while his recently fledged young waits nearby. Equipped with a powerful bill and remarkable tongue, he peels and probes the timber in search of hidden insects. Far more than a forager, he is part of an ancient relationship between bird and forest. In searching for food, Baudins Black Cockatoos help shape the ecosystems on which countless other species depend.
