Troy Shiels, The Place (PLACES 2026)

The MLC Tower - now known as 25 Martin Place - is an iconic and significant piece of Australian architecture. The Harry Seidler structure was the tallest building in Australia upon its opening in 1978. In the near half-century that has passed since its opening, this tower is increasingly surrounded by an encroaching ever-climbing skyline. My artistic goal here was to isolate the structure from its surroundings and let the morning light tell the story of the tower's sleek modernist lines. I acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the traditional custodians of the lands on which this structure stands on which I captured this image.
