Kayleigh Corkery, "The Misunderstood Markings" (PEOPLE 2022)

She lost her only sibling many years ago now, overtime her mother left because she resembled too much of her sibling's features. It was just too much for her to bear, she never saw her again. Dad tried his best to raise her but he broke down years later. He stayed in a mental health facility for a while both of her parents couldn't face the way she passed, so he now works on a farm 4 hours away. She then lived with her nana when she was the age of 9. This growing lady had to grow up way too quick, her nana also did the best she could even though she cried most nights losing her own grand daughter, afterall it happened in her car on that fatal day, it was not her fault.... Her now surviving grand daughter got her first tattoo when she was just the age of 13. The grandmother could see she still carries guilt from that day when her sibling went away....afterall she survived too with just a few minor bruises. Years went by her then 22 year old self grew into her healing imprinted markings. The moral of this one lifes story is to never judge a book by its cover, as tattoos can represent surival and strength. Chosen Markings is a way they can potentially express themseleves and to turn pain and tragedy into something beautiful.
