This photograph owes its existence to circumstance. The War in Iran diverted our journey through South Africa, placing me in front of a subject I had never imagined photographing. It is a quiet irony that an image defined by harmony and balance began with disruption. Rendered in monochrome, the zebra becomes an exploration of light, texture and line. The eye anchors the frame while the repeating stripes dissolve into abstraction, inviting the viewer to look beyond the familiar animal and into the elegance of its design. Photography often rewards careful planning. Sometimes, however, its greatest gift is reminding us that the most meaningful images are the ones we never set out to make.
