Brad Donaldson, The Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), Jaipur, India (PLACES 2024)
Built in 1799, the facade of the Hawa Mahal is an architectural masterpiece. Its five floors include 953 small windows decorated with intricate latticework, all in perfect symmetry. The original intent of the windows was to allow Indian royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen. These days it is a very popular tourist attraction in Jaipur, India.
