In 1606 a wooden Dutch ship named the Duyfken while on a voyage of discovery made land with her crew in the Gulf of Carpentaria, making them the first Europeans known to discover and chart part of Australia. The meticulously replicated copy of the original Duyfken sails on Sydney Harbour with a professional and Volunteer crew sailing the three masted, square rigged sailing boat. I captured one of the sailors preparing to drop the canvas sails.
