Michael Tomkinson, The Didgeridude (PEOPLE 2021)
This Indigenous gentleman often appears at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast playing the didgeridoo. He usually turns up during significant weather events when large swells hit the South East Queensland coast and surfers swarm the world famous surf spot. I captured this image early one morning as a mid sized swell was running. He was positioned up on the rocks at Snapper playing his didgeridoo when I witnessed a wave explode behind him. I thought that if he stayed playing in the same spot long enough, I could capture the moment another wave would hit the rock and explode behind him. Luckily it did and this was the resulting image. I have never met or spoken to the man as it seems he would prefer to keep his own company. He certainly is a well known local character who no one seems to know much about. This lead me to respectfully name him "The Didgeridude".
