You see me near your home, flying around, making a mess in your yard, you assume all is ok. Quietly, I am fading, vanishing into the darkness of extinction. My presence in your suburb, in itself the loudest warning I can give you. Each and every precious little face, gone. My calls of ‘whyyylaahhhhh’ before the rain falling silent. Help us! We need you to speak up to save our species. We need the bush, our place to raise our young. We need the banksia woodland… that messy ‘nothing’ scrubland along the coastal plain, our place to feed the flock. We need to be saved from roadsides, from the temptation of spilt grain when we are starving. We need you to advocate for us for we can’t speak. We can only be us, that ubiquitous icon of West Australian life. Please! Help us!
