Jayden Thomson, The Arch (PLACES 2024)

When visiting Old Delhi, I took this photo of Jama Masjid Mosque, one of the largest mosques in India. It was built in 1650-1656 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the same Shah who built the famous Taj Mahal, hence the resemblance. Unlike the Taj Mahal though, Jama Masjid was built using red marble instead of white. Despite the majority of Indians being Hindi, there are Muslim mosques reflecting the varied and deep culture and mixing pot of India. The dark archway perfectly frames the Jama Masjid, further highlighting the depth of beauty and architecture of the Islamic architecture in the amazing city of Delhi, India.
