A pre-dawn squall charges in over Coolum Beach, forcing the retreating tide to sluice back through a jagged basalt gutter. This single 1/5 sec exposure balances fluid motion against the immovable volcanic shelf; careful dodging and burning lead the eye along the diagonal cascade toward the distant rain curtain on the horizon. Converted to monochrome to amplify texture and atmosphere, the image captures the raw energy that defines Queensland’s winter storm season.
