Carol Grimshaw, Summer's Last Carousel (PLACES 2024)
30 March 2024 was an unseasonally hot day in Victoria. The image captures a moment at the Geelong Foreshore where young families and fisherfolk congregated to bask in the last rays of warmth ahead of the inevitable chill of autumn into winter. The image captures a range of activity by and within the historic carousel, including a child running up the pier in the mid line perhaps to get summer's last ride. The wider background perspective takes in the structures along Geelong Pier, Corio Bay industry and ports, while the glass housing of the historic Carousel reflects the Corio Bay Foreshore, and its visitors grabbing summer's last ice cream.
