James Russell, Strength in fragility (PEOPLE 2024)

This is a portrait of my daughter Olive made back in November last year. The image was captured immediately after getting home after finally being discharged at the end of a particularly difficult 9 week stint in hospital. After having major airway reconstructive surgery, she experienced a number of complications, spending most of this time in intensive care. The impact of this time on her was so significant and left her extremely fragile. Captured in our bathroom using natural window light.
