Timo Balk, Stage Performance (PLACES 2022)

On a chilly winter morning during lockdown, I went exploring a lake in my local park. One moment I turned around and noticed how light rays have burst through the fog, shining on a buoy near the opposite bank. At the exact same time, a little pied cormorant flew into this composition and landed on the buoy to dry its wings in the morning light. I really like the contrast between the silhouetted bird against the bright area which is contained by darker woodland. Additionally, I wouldn’t even imagine it possible to capture one of my personal favourite photographs of the year within five kilometres from home.
