'Self-portrait, in shadow' depicts the implied vulnerability of engaging in self-portraiture as a delicate and deeply personal artistic practice. As the sitter, I bare my body and expose the sensitivities of my natural being while preserving some degree of anonymity. As the photographer, I direct light and shadow within the capture to reflect the emotion of my own presence. My hand resembling the making of my portrait from both sides of the lens, instructing and inspiring its very expression.
