We spent three weeks volunteering on a conservancy in Zulu Natal in South Africa. One of its main objectives is the preservation and repopulation of White Rhino. Poaching for horn remains a real threat in South African and indeed across the continent. The cost of protecting and successfully translocating rhino to other parts of Africa is high. The illicit trade in horn produces big profits for criminal gangs and there remains a high demand for horn in Asia, the Middle East and China.
