Reexistence is an on going documentary series portraying women from Feira de São Joaquim, one of the largest open-air markets in Latin America, located in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. At first, Dona Chica refused to be captured. Behind her stern expression, however, I found a woman shaped by a lifetime of work and perseverance. From gathering shellfish as a child to earning her place at Feira de São Joaquim, she embodies the spirit of reexistence: resisting in order to exist.
