Cameron Hanks, Pops, Grandad, Gramps (PEOPLE 2022)

This photo was my first attempt at using simple studio lighting. I chose a familiar face, my son's Pops, as the subject. Using a simple off camera flash, mounted in a diffuser and set at an angle of around 45 degrees I was able to achieve a split light effect. I love the detail and glimmer in his eyes, along with the finer details in his facial features. You get a real sense of warmth from the subject's face, which I feel reflects his new found role as a grandfather.
