Israel Uriondo, Parallel Realities (PEOPLE 2024)

This photo was taken in Melbourne, Australia. I've been trying to create better compositions with a touch of surrealism playing with angles, light and shadows to make it seem that the image is almost a collage. An inspiration is obviously Henri Cartier-Bresson. I had my camera with me at the time but unfortunately had put it down for a second when the person in the image walked by with a stroller, so having my phone at hand I shot this image with it. I've barely edited the image, I like it as it is. I just turned up the brightness a little to give a touch of humanity to the subject, rather than having a blacked out silhouette. I wish I'd shot it with my actual camera but this was the only person that walked by for a long while and it was a very isolated place so I think pointing a bigger camera at him would've ruined the moment, plus I like the 'lower quality' of the image, it gives it a vintage feel. This is obviously not a big production photo but rather a spontaneous, fleeting moment on the street.
