Racheal Young, Night Light Veronica Sunbay Napier (PLACES 2022)

The Veronica Sunbay Pergola in Napier New Zealand. Built in 1934 to Honour the crew of the HMS Veronica Naval ship, who came to the rescue of the city of Napier after the 1931 earthquake destroyed the city. One of the most beautiful spots in New Zealand to capture the rising sun, but I find it equally beautiful on a calm Autumn evening and in black and white it shows the simple beauty of an error of architecture from our past. These pillars hold the history of a broken city rebuilt to the stunning Art Deco beauty Napier is today.
