Kerry Herschell, Metropolis (PLACES 2026)

METROPOLIS - JAPAN In the midst of overpopulated cities, finding moments of solitude and reflection is increasingly difficult. The city becomes a character in its own right, both a refuge and a maze. It serves as a metaphor for the complex interplay between connection and alienation, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences within the urban sprawl. Through this work, I aim to shed light on the invisible threads of loneliness that weave through our densely populated environments, revealing the silent struggles and subtle moments of introspection that lie beneath the surface. My love of street photography and the people I met while travelling led me to explore further how we live and interact in overpopulated cities. METROPOLIS is a visual exploration of our relationship with the inanimate surroundings we inhabit, exploring how these environments shape our existence and sense of connection amidst the relentless pace of modern life.
