Mame Du Bois, Masri (PEOPLE 2024)

Masri - or Maz as his family call him - served me in a fruit and vegetable shop wearing a flannelette long-sleeve shirt and a cap. The moment those eyes peered out from under the brim of his cap I knew I had to photograph him. Unfortunately, Masri didn’t like this photo. When I asked why, he said “I just don’t like photos of myself - I look weird”. Mum and photographer disagree.
