Rowan Tan, Life in Melbourne (PLACES 2021)
On a beautiful sunny autumn day in Melbourne, leaves were sprawled, this father and his children were happily exploring the water feature in front of the National Gallery Victoria and the couple were just strolling hand in hand, in their private familiar world. This image is best presented in black and white. The line of leaves on the ground, the pavement and the wall provided the leading lines to the family, framed by the tree and wall. Equally, the tree provided a frame for the young couple as they walked by. I still remember how excited I felt when I saw the opportunity to capture this family (walking ahead of me) from a low perspective. The couple at the side contributed to the beautiful autumn atmosphere in Melbourne. This image not only presented a sense of place, but also a sense of time and an atmospheric feel of warmth, joy and peace.
