Franck Gazzola, Last Breath Before The Night (PEOPLE 2021)
Ocean explorer Ghislain Bardout is taking a last look at the Capsule before heading back into it for another night in the belly of the Pacific ocean. A breath hold to admire the underwater habitat in the dark immensity and mystery of the ocean. Observing the oceans with no time limit, like we do in the mountains, in the forests, or anywhere on-land is one of the last human dreams still alive. We know more about the moon and the planets than we know about our oceans today. Why? Because we can continuously observe them. The oceans’ inaccessibility over long stretches of time is today’s main challenges for tomorrow’s discoveries. The Capsule, this lunar module look-alike underwater habitat is the key: saturation diving techniques (long diving) can finally be used for science and discoveries, not just for oil and mining. A new era of ocean exploration is starting.
