Jayden Thomson, Largest in the world, Abhaneri Stepwell (PLACES 2024)

When travelling in Rajasthan India, we made our way to Abhaneri to visit its famous stepwell, Chand Baori stepwell, the largest and deepest one in the world. The architecture was beautiful and its height dizzying, and I struggled to imagine how anyone could have carried water up from the bottom. It was built in 9th century, with 3500 steps, 13 stories tall.
