Faye Milligan, Lake Tyrell Silos (PLACES 2025)

The Sea Lake Silos form part of The Silo Art Trail one of Australia’s largest outdoor galleries, linking the Wimmera Mallee’s small towns across 700km through the region. The colourful artwork aims to connect and bring the viewer closer to some of the relatively ordinary and overlooked elements of the outback landscape and allows viewers to see these elements from a new perspective. Whilst the recently painted silos attract many passing visitors, I was also attracted to some still standing silos nearby which remain in their original condition and have their own historical story to tell.
