Sarah Jenkins, Karo Tribe Warrior (People)
Out of the forest on the banks of a river where we had set up camp, in a remote Karo tribe area in Southern Ethiopia, appeared this somewhat fearsome looking man. Karo men paint their face and body with white natural paint to look menacing and command respect. Many of the Karo tribe carry Kalashnikov AK-47 guns (bought from neighbouring South Sudan) to use to fight off any inter tribal conflicts over stealing of cattle or land issues.
