Brence Coghill, John Coffer (People)
Wet plate collodion image on 20x30 inch aluminium plate. John Coffer resurrected the wet plate collodion process from the brink of obscurity in the early 1980s by traversing the breadth of the USA finding information from historic archives, photographers’ old notebooks, and a lot of trial and error. Since 1985 he’s lived off-grid on a 50 acre farm in the heart of the Finger Lakes of up-state New York in the house he built by hand. This mammoth sized wet plate image was created with an ultra large format camera that resembled a large canon and a 2 minute exposure.
