Shaan Herbert, Irreconcilable Differences (PLACES 2021)
This little composition is a well known Landmark alongside the roadway near the country town it is from. Otherwise known as Split Rock (obviously), it sits on the Side of the Roa as a king of way point for travellers. The stories I'm sure it could tell after the millennia it has existed here. From its time during the original peoples of the country to now, more recently. Perhaps in the last 50 or so years these two old souls have been infiltrated, by a much younger, pushy tree. It makes one wonder wether the small scraggly tree forced the rocks apart by growing in between them in the smallest of fissures, or if it was just a happy interloper taking advantage of the discord between lovers. Either way, the tree is now attempting to reconcile the differences between the two rocks now divided and irreconcilably separated by time immortal.
