In the darkened hallway, Grandma entertains Torben and Brynmor with shadow puppets on the wall. We were between homes before the pandemic started, living with my parents with our newborn and toddler. Out of guilt that he was missing out, I tried to keep my older son’s routine consistent, and although my newborn was tiny, we kept up with our schedule of swimming lessons, playgroups and activities. When lockdown began, it was the fourth trimester I should have planned. We rested, supported by family. Age-old entertainments became new, and stayed on in the repertoire long after lockdown ended.
