Maureen Olympic Cyclists Whakatane, Her Mother’s Daughter (PEOPLE 2022)

This is a photograph of Natalie Verstegen who sustained a serious spinal injury in 2020, in Perth. Through sheer determination and hard work she has made an amazing recovery. Her mother who suffered with a brain tumour for many years displayed the same qualities in an attempt to become well. This photo was taken at a family wedding in New Zealand in June 2022. This was the first time that Natalie had been able to return home since her accident.
