Dan Ratner, Graphite streets (PLACES 2026)

Graphite Streets reduces the city to tone, texture, and geometry. A convex mirror, a directional arrow, and a wall of illuminated brick emerge from deep shadow, transforming an ordinary urban space into something psychologically charged and uncertain. By removing colour and human presence, the image focuses on the sculptural qualities of light and surface, where reflection and absence become central themes. The monochrome treatment evokes the material depth of graphite and silver gelatin prints, allowing the scene to exist somewhere between documentation and dream.
