Jessica Connell, Grandfathers violin (PEOPLE 2021)

Artist and musician Hannah Jane. Hannah was the inspiration for a new series of portraits of artists with their instruments and performers with their props. As performer and musicians who use props these instruments become an extension of who we are when we are on stage. So much that there is a different level of venerability on stage without our instruments. Hannah tells us a little about her incredibly special grandfathers violin. “Great Granddads violin is very special to me It was found in its original hessian style bag on my grandfather’s property 30 odd years ago, restored & gifted to me to care for. My Great Granddad played it as a teenager in the early 1900’s The violin has pathed my way offering many opportunities throughout art and work. If it doesn’t like a song or style it refuses to play. If it likes a genre or composition, it enables me to play endlessly with love & comfort.”
