A kathak dancer's 'ghungroo' are special to each dancer. It's not just performance percussion, it's a ritual, a a rite of passage, a bridge of meditation between nerves and on showtime. A kathak dancer earns the right to wear ghungroo. Tying the bells to ankles is, if not a prayer, then certainly a moment to tap in to self-belief.
