Michael Currie, Fuel for Endurance (PEOPLE 2025)

A landing craft dating back to the 1960s now serves as transport and a floating base for soldiers deploying on surveillance patrols in the remote Kimberley Marine Park. The fuel that drives their mission dominated the space — and as soon as I came aboard and saw it, I was drawn to make this image. For me, it speaks to the endurance of both machine and people: an ageing vessel supporting a new generation of soldiers on a long, remote operation protecting Australia. Part of my ongoing work documenting the Australian Army Reserve.
