Fiona Bowring, Father and son at sea (PEOPLE 2026)

As someone who is acutely uncomfortable in water–always and anti-socially reluctant to lose my hold on solid ground–I was arrested by this fleeting scene. Surrounded by water, man and boy, father and son? are suspended. It’s a moment of vulnerability and of trust, potent with possibility. Father goes first.
