This is the photograph that ignited my passion for wildlife photography. Days earlier, I had discovered Russell Hinze Park in Oxenford—affectionately dubbed ‘Murdery-Geese Park’—and spotted a lone Australian Pelican perched on a log in the water. Excitedly, I captured a few shots with my Canon R50, only to mistakenly format the SD card, erasing them all. Determined to try again, I returned days later to find not one, but five pelicans on the log. As I maneuvered for the perfect shot, an unexpected encounter with a low-hanging branch momentarily knocked me off course—literally. Regaining focus, I took the shot. From that moment on, photographing Australian wildlife became an obsession.
