On the day I took this photo of Duncan, he shared many stories of his life with me. Stories of a childhood in a quiet English hamlet, of caring for chickens before becoming an aircraft apprentice. He spoke of his wife, Lana, and the life they built together, and he had the most wonderful smile and warm laugh. But in this moment, I caught a deep thoughtfulness in his silence; one eye lost to time but the other holding a world of thought. There’s a quiet strength in his face, a trace of mischief too, as if he’s deciding whether to share one more story or simply let me wonder. He is a character I will never forget.
