The Kahuku Wind Farms in northern Oahu, Hawaii appears to have a vibe of tranquility during the golden hour where the rays of the sun create gentle gradients of light and shadow which softens the enormous man made turbines which appear to harmonious and gently blend in with the environment like a humble saviour. However the truth is that the residents of Kahuku view these turbines as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The turbines of Kahuku are the subject of major controversy in Hawaii. Concerns surrounding hazards for the endangered Opeapea bat as well as implications for the mental and physical wellbeing of the residents of Kahuku have sparked protests and court proceedings meaning this peaceful scene is anything but.
