This image was captured quite accidentally in Sawtell, NSW. We had stopped to enjoy the ocean views and I had walked to the edge of the cliff to take some pictures of the surfers when I noticed the darkening clouds and the bolts of lightening that continued for awhile, heralding the approach of the distant rainstorm also captured here. Sometimes, decisive moments happen just when you are not expecting them. I was also lucky to have a gull sitting on the power pole on the right hand side. The bird adds a nice bit of quirkiness to this nature story. The inclusion of the power pole was quite deliberate and another part of the narrative—the juxtaposition of man-made energy with that provided by nature.
