Linda Leman, Deep cover. (ANIMALS 2025)
The Lace Monitor, or Tree Goanna, is a large carnivorous Australian lizard that grows up to a whopping 2 meters. Stockmen and women are wary of them in open spaces as when they spook they try to run up the tallest object - often the horse and rider. The Lace Monitor looks fearsome but they are extremely shy. I had to wait a long time in the bush to allow this lizard to feel confident enough to move. You can see in it's eyes that we had a moment of undertstanding - that I was not it's predator.
