To me this images is typical of the characters and personalities you come across in the Australian Bush. This was taken at a shearing shed at Callubri Station, at the end of the shearing season in winter. In the middle is a wool bale that is the product of their labour. Taking a group portrait is often quite a difficult feat. But I had spent a week with these guys and I was keen to show both the camaraderie within the group and the rapport I had built with them. In the top right edge of the frame is a sign that says ‘keep clear’, which also adds another subtle layer, to hint at the cheekiness, sense of fun and the spirit of these shearers.
