Looking at the butterfly, it may seem it has two big hemispherical eyes. Though, each of these compound eyes is said to hold a mind boggling, upto 17,000 lenses. Each lens is at slightly different angle. The image when stitched together, the butterfly can nearly see all around it from 1cm to 200 meters away in sharp focus. An amazing insect! This photo of a Crimson Rose was shot in the wilderness of Central India - Pench National Park, early March 2024 as the summer heat was kicking in.
