14th March 2025 was a blood moon lunar eclipse. In Tasmania the eclipse was partial however it was still spectacular as the eclipse and moon rise coincided with sunset. In this photograph taken with a long telephoto the eclipsing moon rose above the hills on Bruny Island just as the golden light faded from the foreground. I took the photo from a vantage point on Northwest Bay looking across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the island. I like the way the moon appears to be momentarily perched on the ridge line and cradled by the skyline shrubs, while the dwellings and inhabitants below, oblivious to the gargantuan celestial body looming behind them, conveys a sense of scale that keeps the mind engaged.
