Lucca Amorim, Away from Peering Eyes (ANIMALS 2022)

Surrounded by the lake's morning fog, a pair of Great-crested Grebes swim together as the sun slowly rises above the horizon. Gently, the couple begins imitating each other's movements as their mating ritual begins. Almost as if there were an unheard song, the Grebes float and dance on the water's surface. Alone and unbothered, they profess their love while passionately swaying to an unheard melody. The image was captured during an expedition to various lagoons in NSW to capture spring bird behaviour in 2021.
