Graham Gall, After The Fire (Places)

This image was captured on 30 January 2020 in Wingello on the Southern Highlands; the fire had been through on 5 January 2020. I am not a disaster tourist, I am a photographer and I when I saw this scene I wanted to document the aftermath of this terrible blaze as a piece of monochrome fine art. I was struck by the apocalyptic feel of it and the branches reaching out almost screaming in horror. In fact it could be a scene from Mad Max. I like the vertical lines and height provided by the chimney, the rose arch and the ladder. The car on background gives one an impression of the totality of the destruction and nothing was spared. I understand a little old lady had lived here for many years and one can sense from the rose arch that this was a garden she cared for deeply.
